How Will I Meet the Spend Requirement?

If you read this week's blog post, you already know that sign-up bonuses blow everyday spending out of the water. So let's go one level deeper - because the question I get most often after people learn about welcome bonuses is this:

"But how am I supposed to spend $5,000 in three months?"

Here's the thing: you probably already are.

Most busy professionals (especially those with families, mortgages, and real-life expenses) are spending $4,000 to $6,000 a month without thinking twice about it. The problem isn't the spending. The problem is that it's going on the wrong card.

Let me show you what $5,000 in three months actually looks like:

Groceries: $800/month × 3 = $2,400

Gas: $200/month × 3 = $600

Utilities + subscriptions: $300/month × 3 = $900

One car insurance payment: $400 (our family’s is $1,300 - I don’t even want to talk about it)

One vet visit, school activity, or home expense: $700

That's $5,000. On things you were buying anyway.

You don't need to change your spending habits. You just need to change which card you hand over at checkout.

One practical tip before you apply: go through your last three months of bank or credit card statements and add up your regular monthly expenses. If you're already hitting $1,500 to $2,000 a month on autopilot, you're more than ready.

The bonus is sitting there. Your normal life is the minimum spend.
