Your Full Starter Stack
The 5 cards, in order with the exact timeline and everything you need to start

"The starter stack, just the first three Chase cards, gets you 250,000 points in year one bonuses alone. On spending you were already going to do."
You know the 5/24 rule. You know why bonuses beat everyday spending. You know business cards are available to you. Now let's put it all together.
Here are the five cards I recommend for most busy professionals, in the exact order I recommend applying for them. I've included affiliate links where applicable. If you apply through my link, I may earn a small commission at no cost to you. I only recommend cards I personally use and believe in.
The Stack
Card 1: Chase Sapphire Preferred
$95/yr | 75,000 pts after $5,000 in 3 months
Your personal anchor. Unlocks World of Hyatt, United MileagePlus, and Air France Flying Blue. The $50 annual hotel credit nearly cuts the fee in half. Apply for this first. Set up autopay immediately. Wait 30 days before your next application.

Card 2: Ink Business Preferred
$95/yr | 100,000 pts after $8,000 in 3 months
Your business anchor. Does NOT count against your Chase 5/24. Points pool directly with your Sapphire. One of the largest bonuses in the Chase ecosystem. Apply 30 days after your Sapphire.

Card 3: Ink Business Unlimited
$0/yr | 75,000 pts after $6,000 in 3 months
Free catch-all card. 1.5x on everything. Points pool with your Sapphire. Zero annual fee, zero reason not to have it. Apply 30 days after the Ink Business Preferred. Full Chase starter stack complete.

Combined starter bonus from cards 1 through 3: 250,000 Ultimate Rewards points — worth $2,500 or more in travel, and significantly more via transfer partners.
Card 4: American Express Gold
$325/yr → about $85 effective | Up to 100,000 pts after $6,000 in 6 months
4x on dining and 4x on groceries, the two highest earn rates available on any card in those categories. $120 dining credit plus $120 Uber Cash brings the effective cost to about $85. Add this once your Chase minimum spends are met, around month 3 or 4.
Card 5: Capital One Venture X
$395/yr → about $95 effective | 75,000 miles after $4,000 in 3 months
$300 annual travel credit plus 10,000 anniversary miles every year effectively pays for itself. Priority Pass lounge access included. Capital One miles also transfer to Turkish Airlines Miles and Smiles, one of the best-kept redemption secrets in the entire points world. Add this at 6 months or later.

What About the Rest?
The five cards above are the 3P Travel starter stack where almost everyone should begin. But the full system eventually includes a few more worth knowing:
Citi Strata Premier ($95/yr): The only bank card that transfers to American Airlines AAdvantage at 1:1. Your key to the Oneworld alliance — British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Japan Airlines. Add this after your Chase and Amex cards are established.
Bilt Mastercard ($0/yr): Earns points on rent with zero transaction fee. Transfers to Hyatt and United at 1:1, same as Chase. If you pay rent, there is no reason not to have this card.
Amex Platinum ($895/yr, highly offset by credits): Centurion Lounge access, automatic Marriott and Hilton Gold status, $200 Uber Cash, Global Entry reimbursement. Best for frequent travelers. Add when your travel frequency justifies the benefits.
American Express Business Platinum ($895/yr, highly offset by credits): $600 traevl credit each year, 5x points on flights and prepaid hotels, access to 1,500+ airport lounges worldwide including Centurion Lounges, $200 airline fee credit, $199 CLEAR Plus credit, Global Entry or TSA PreCheck reimbursement, and automatic Marriott and Hilton Gold status. Best for high-spending business travelers who can maximize the travel credits. [Apply Here - AmEx Business Platinum]
The Fast-Track Application Timeline
Best for: professionals who can comfortably hit minimum spends in 3 months and are ready to move quickly. Total timeline: about 6 months.
1. Today: Apply for Chase Sapphire Preferred. Set up autopay immediately.
2. 30 days later: Apply for Ink Business Preferred. Wait for your Sapphire minimum spend to settle.
3. 30 days later: Apply for Ink Business Unlimited. Full Chase starter stack complete.
4. 3 months in: Apply for AmEx Gold once your Chase minimum spends are met.
5. 6 months and beyond: Add Capital One Venture X, then Citi Strata Premier, then Bilt. Complete the five-ecosystem stack.
The Slow-Track Application Timeline
Best for: cautious beginners, professionals with tighter monthly budgets, or anyone who wants to feel fully settled before moving to the next card. Same destination. Scenic route. Total timeline: 12 to 18 months.
1. Month 1: Apply for Chase Sapphire Preferred. Set up autopay immediately. Spend the next three months hitting the minimum spend on normal purchases. No rushing.
2. Month 4: Once the Sapphire welcome bonus has posted and you feel confident with autopay, apply for the Ink Business Preferred. Same process: set up autopay the day it arrives.
3. Month 7: Ink Business Preferred minimum spend complete. Apply for the Ink Business Unlimited. Your full Chase starter stack is now in place. 250,000 points incoming.
4. Month 10: Apply for AmEx Gold. By now you have three months of experience managing multiple cards on autopay. The Amex ecosystem is the natural next step.
5. Month 13 and beyond: Add Capital One Venture X at your own pace, then Citi Strata Premier, then Bilt. There is no deadline. The bonuses are not going anywhere.
The slow track and the fast track arrive at the same place. 250,000 Chase points. The same transfer partners. The same free trips. You just take a little more time getting there. That is not a compromise. That is the right move for where you are.
The P2 Note
If you have a spouse or partner, have them mirror this exact stack with their own applications. Each person earns their own welcome bonuses on the same household spending. The starter stack earns 250,000 points per person, 500,000 points between two people. That is multiple international trips.
One Last Thing Before You Apply
I want to be direct, because I think this is important.
The credit card companies make money when people carry balances and pay interest. The points and rewards programs are designed to be appealing enough to get you to spend more than you otherwise would.
The 3P Travel system works because we do the opposite. We spend exactly what we would have spent anyway. We pay the full balance every single month. We earn points as a byproduct of normal life, not as a reason to overspend.
If you're in a season of financial stress, or you're not confident you can commit to paying in full every month, please wait. The cards will still be here. The bonuses will still be there. The alliances aren't going anywhere. When you're ready, really ready, this system works exactly as promised.
You've read all seven posts now. You know the story, you know the rule, and you know the cards. The only thing left is to start. I'll be here for every step after that.
Swipe Smart. Go Far.
